"Sponge Painting one wall in living room"
Is it okay to sponge paint only one wall in a living room, and use it as a focal wall? I have a living room that has a bay window, and arches leading into it from the foyer. I would like to paint the whole room a very light taupe color, and then sponge paint an antique white over the taupe on the wqll across from the foyer. Am also thinking of sponging the inside of the arches for added interest. The room has victorian style furniture, lace panels topped with silk flower swags over the windows, and off-white ceramic tile with light gray grout lines on the floor. Does this sound like it would look okay with just the one wall sponge painted? Any thoughts or suggestions would be most appreciated.

yes that will work as long as you blend colors with existing decor. This wall will be main focal point of the room.

Just finished painting the living room this weekend. I went ahead and put a base coat in Oyster White (taupy off-white color) on all the walls, then sponge painted Victorian Whitewash (ivory white) over the wall across from the foyer. I did have to go back over the ivory color with a thinned out version of the oyster white to soften the effect a bit. But, I am really pleased with the way it turned out. The eye immediately goes to that wall when you look into the room, and the soft, subtle texture really made my pictures with their ivory and antique gold frames pop out. I went ahead and painted the foyer in the Victorian Whitewash, so the two areas flow together really well. This was my second experience with faux finishing (the first one was in a very small bathroom that I figured no-one but me would see if I messed it up. It turned out beautifully, so I decided to tackle the living room. Glad I did!! Now I've got to decide what to do with lots of hallways, the kitchen, and the family room. Thanks for your advice!!

I would suggest not going to crazy with the colors, stick to colors that are closely related for the best effect.
